EUROSPAR puts Best foot forward to support 180 mile fundraiser for Cancer Fund for Children

EUROSPAR are sponsoring none other than former Ulster, Ireland and British & Irish Lions captain Rory Best, as he sets out on his Miles 2 Mayo challenge for Cancer Fund for Children.

Rory kicked off his 180 mile mission from Daisy Lodge this week, after a small reception where he announced his intention to raise £500,000 for Cancer Fund for Children, EUROSPAR and VIVOXTRA’s charity partner and one close to Rory’s heart.

Since establishing the partnership in 2011, EUROSPAR and VIVOXTRA retailers and their teams have raised over £1.2 million for Cancer Fund for Children and will lend a hand to Rory’s challenge with bucket collections while accompanying him on part of the walk.

Rory’s 180 mile walk will see him walk from Newcastle, Co. Down home of the organisation’s therapeutic short break centre, to Cong in Co. Mayo, the site of a proposed second Daisy Lodge, expanding the organisation’s reach to help families living with cancer across Ireland.

Rory will meet supporters and retailers while passing through Counties Down, Armagh, Fermanagh, Leitrim, Sligo and Mayo – taking in over 30 towns and villages along his epic journey.

Bronagh Luke, Head of Corporate Marketing at Henderson Group which owns the EUROSPAR and VIVOXTRA brands in Northern Ireland congratulated Rory on taking on the challenge and said their retailers would be with him every step of the way.

“Rory has been such a friend to Cancer Fund for Children and has supported many of our own initiatives for the charity over the years. There is a EUROSPAR or VIVOXTRA in almost every town and village in Northern Ireland, so where Rory and his walking team will go, there will be a supportive retail team cheering him along the way, supported by our wonderful shoppers.”

Rory added; “My family and friends will tell you that I’m not a fan of walking. Walking 180 miles in nine days will be tough but nowhere near as tough as the challenges that families dealing with childhood cancer face.

“I’m not only taking on this challenge to raise vital funds but also awareness of the impact cancer has on the lives of children and young people.  Already an incredible £213,800 has been raised and I would like to thank our incredible sponsors, local schools, clubs and business for getting behind me. If you can, please donate to my challenge and cheer me on as I pass through your towns and villages.”
