High in protein, these delicious products stay true to the natural home farm or ‘Boere’ cooking enjoyed by Louis and Schalk as children in South Africa. “Northern Irish beef is delicious, but I wanted to combine it with coriander, cloves and nutmeg - the traditional flavours of my childhood - to bring something special to the local market and to bring a reminder of home to my family here in Belfast,” said Louis Ludik.
Hellbent is the product of months of product development with the Ulster University and a number of other local food experts. Van der Merwe added, “We have been absolutely determined to create flavours that are true to South Africa. We are parents and professional athletes so it’s not in our nature to compromise.
This relentless pursuit of the best was easy when it came to finding good quality local Northern Irish beef, but we had to work hard to find the right herbs and spices. We are really pleased with the Hellbent products now. They are free from rusk with a very high beef content, making them naturally low in fat. They’re the perfect addition to a healthy family meal.”
Enjoy Hellbent products by cooking them gently in the oven for 20 minutes, turning once, or if you are feeling brave, fire up the BBQ and grill until it has turned a golden brown. Like any good beef, always leave Hellbent boerewors to rest for a few minutes before eating. Serve in fresh bread rolls or with a salad for a simple, delicious high protein meal!
