The Garden Hunt

The Garden Hunt

Hello! My name is Steph Duke. I’m wife to Matt and mum to Phoebe (5). I’m so excited to share that I’ll be here for the next few weeks, sharing some kids activities to do at home!

April has brought much welcomed lighter nights and warmer days, the perfect reason to get out of the house and into the garden with the kids. My husband created ‘The Garden Hunt’ activity to do with our 5-year-old daughter, and she loved it so much, that it has now become a weekly activity! Your ‘garden hunt’ doesn’t need to be fancy or complicated in any way - grab a scrap piece of paper, a pen, and get into the garden to find some inspiration!

Depending on the age of your children, you can vary the activities in your garden hunt to suit. Phoebe is only 5, so simple instructions and activities work best, things like: counting flowers, naming colours, singing nursery rhymes, throwing and catching a ball, drawing a picture of a flower/leaf, finding treasure, and exercises like running on the spot, star jumps etc.

We’ve done two garden hunts so far, and you can see our ‘very fancy’ resources below! A little imagination goes a long way! Creatively use the space you’ve got and a special ‘treasure’ for the end of the hunt is always a good idea.
