Chocolate-Infused Beans on Toast

Ingredients 

  • 1 can (400g) of high-quality baked beans
  • 4 slices of artisan bread (sourdough or multigrain recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 50g dark chocolate (70% cocoa), finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Optional: grated cheddar cheese

Method

  • Prepare the Beans: In a medium saucepan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and garlic, cooking until softened (about 3-4 minutes).

  • Flavor the Beans: Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and ground cumin. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  • Add Beans and Chocolate: Add the baked beans to the saucepan and stir to combine. Cook for about 5 minutes until heated through. Add the finely chopped dark chocolate and stir until melted and fully incorporated. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  • Prepare the Toast: While the beans are cooking, toast the slices of artisan bread until golden and crispy. Spread the remaining butter evenly over the hot toast.

  • Assemble: Spoon the chocolate-infused beans over the buttered toast slices. If desired, sprinkle grated cheddar cheese on top.

  • Garnish and Serve: Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve immediately.
